🍌Banana Mint Nice Cream🍨 with Ground Ivy leaves (🤓ℹ️: Glechoma Hederacea)

Ground Ivy is in bloom! Making it much easier to spot it growing along forest edges and wooded trails.

It’s a delicious wild plant that tastes minty and citrusy. Harvest a nice handful, then in your food processor, add 2 frozen bananas 🍌 , 2 tbsp of rice milk 🥛, and your ground Ivy leaves 🌿. Blend until smooth and dig in!

This recipe is SO GOOD!!!! I hope you love it.

Remember to always follow foraging safety & ethics rules. Number 1 being to always be 100% certain of your plant ID.

Yes that’s a slug on my hand 🐌😂 Have you ever tasted hogweed (Heracleum sphondylium)?

It’s crunchy and juicy - a bit like the freshness of cucumber and celery. Right now is a perfect time to eat the youngest leaves raw, or fry the flower buds still in their sheaths, or peel the petioles or stems to enjoy them raw!

Hogweed is hairy like Hercules - hence the Latin name Heracleum. This is a key characteristic not to confuse it with some of the deadly species in the Apiaceae family like poison hemlock. The leaflets are also huge and not cut up into tiny little bits. However, these few tips aren’t enough to differentiate it from other lookalikes. So, please always be 100% sure of your plant ID.

🌸🪲It’s Thyme for No Mow May 🌼🐝 Instead of mowing your lawn this month, let it grow abundantly to support your neighborhood pollinators! 🐞🦋🐜🪳

And explore what’s growing! I had so much thyme growing in my garden that I harvested some to make roasted thyme potatoes! Quick tip ℹ️: add some thyme before AND after roasting. Roasted thyme has a great crunch to it, but fresh thyme has so much more aroma! ☺️

Remember when foraging to only harvest 10-30% of a plant in one area to leave enough for wildlife!

🎨DIY Play-Dough 🧸with edible ingredients!

If the little ones in your life love play-dough but you’d prefer to skip the plastic containers, consider making play-doh yourself!

Not only is the homemade dough cheap & quick to make, the dough-making process itself is a great family-friendly activity.

I made 4 colors, inspired by @mothercould (slightly modifying the steps). For each color, you’ll need this quantity for the dough:
- 4.5 tbsp flour
- 2 tbsp. salt
- ½ tbsp. cream of tartar*
- ¼ tbsp. oil
- ¼ cup warm water
- food coloring (quantity depends on the type you use)

*for Swiss people out there: this was impossible for me to find!! I had my mom-in-law send send over from the states. Let me know if you know where to find this in Europe. (It’s a powder and it’s not a cream 🤪)

Steps:
- mix the dry ingredients + the oil together in a bowl
- In a separate jar, mix the water with one of the food colorings. Stir.
- Add the colored water to the other ingredients and mix.
- Take the dough in your hands and play with it. If the dough is sticky, simply add a bit more flour and it’ll quickly fix the issue.
- Repeat these steps for the other colors.
- Use within 6 weeks.
