Oh my goodness I turned 33 today! I’m grateful f Oh my goodness I turned 33 today! I’m grateful for another year on this gorgeous planet, and another year creating online eco-courses with the best co-CEO boss babe I could hope for (Cristina!!).⁣

We’ve been much quieter than normal on IG & the newsletter lately for many reasons, one being that we are making lots of logistical changes at Permacrafters that is swallowing up our attention. But rest assured, we have loads of new course material in store + we can’t wait to get started on community Zoom calls with our students! 😁⁣
•⁣
This photo is from our family walk this morning! Nothing better to start a new year than with a stroll in nature!!⁣
•⁣
Lots of love to you all!⁣

🥕🧅The last of the harvest. 🥦🍆 It was a 🥕🧅The last of the harvest. 🥦🍆 It was a pretty great run considering we didn’t exactly know what we were doing 😅 Practically all 40+ seed varieties we planted were a big success! (It was a bit too chilly for the okra plant that gave us TWO full okras to enjoy 😆.)⁣
•⁣
We didn’t till. We didn’t weed. Other than thinking out more or less which plant should be planted near which companion, we basically winged it and spent little time on managing it.⁣
•⁣
Thanks to the no-weeding policy (jk not a policy, simply laziness) we ended up with LOADS of medicinal yarrow and plantain to harvest. Double win. Never weeding again. Plus, what even are weeds?! Just plants you don’t know the values of yet.⁣
•⁣
Maybe this was beginner’s luck (well we had gardened before, but in community, with help!!) or maybe it just wasn’t as difficult as we had made it up in our heads to be. Either way, we’ll be doing it again and again!⁣
•⁣
Have you ever considered gardening in community or borrowing your neighbor’s plot of land to grow food?!⁣

The world cannot afford any delay. The Trump admin The world cannot afford any delay. The Trump administration has rolled back over 100 environmental protections, including plans to lower coal power plant emissions, limits on car & truck pollution, and regulations governing clean air, clean water, wildlife, and toxic chemicals. It’s dismantled major climate policies, and sought to bolster American fossil fuel production. The day after the election, the U.S. will officially exit the Paris climate agreement.⁣
•⁣
With Biden as president, the U.S. will rejoin that climate agreement. Thanks to environmental activists, Biden’s plan is now more progressive than Sanders’ was in 2016. Biden won’t be a driving force for revolutionary change, but with our continued and relentless activism over the next 4 years, he will be the vehicle for climate justice.⁣
•⁣
I voted for people & planet. Have you?⁣

🌚When the Peruvian government announced they wo 🌚When the Peruvian government announced they wouldn’t supply menstrual products in their COVID-19 relief packages, my friend Thais, specialized in Global Health, decided to take action.
•
Along with her friend Anace, they started the Khuyana.org — Their goals?
- 🤓 Educate youth about puberty, menstruation, and sexual & reproductive health.
- 🩸 Provide period care starter kits (including cloth pads!) to young (or soon-to-be) menstruators.
- 🔨 Empower youth by breaking down period stigmas!
•
Thais took our Zero Waste Period class and was inspired to start her own sustainable line of reusable pads to provide to under-resourced populations in rural Peru. 🥰 I can't be more proud of what she is doing and her vision!!
•
I met up with her in North Carolina (masks on, as you can see!) to teach her how we make our own period pads pattern. She is sending our pattern to be sampled in Peru! (Tutorial in IGTV.)
•
Check out their account @khuyana_org to learn more about their work!
